What is your background and how did you get into skincare?
I’ve always been obsessed with skin care. There was something magic about potions and lotions. From days spent by the river creating ocre masks or collecting jasmine and rose petals to make concoctions – I’ve been doing this since I was a child. As an adult, I learnt about essential oils, their uses and properties. This interest became heightened while I was pregnant with my first child and I began researching ingredient and just exactly what I was putting on my skin. All of this came together during my second pregnancy when I created The Little Alchemist.
For me, there was never another option. We are lucky to be in a time where we have access to an amazing and ever growing selection of natural and raw ingredients. Using these I can create beautiful products that are great for your skin and, in my opinion, offer equal or better results than mainstream products that are laden with toxic ingredients.
Why do you do this?
There’s a few reasons. The main one is passion. I love what I do – it makes me happy, enthusiastic and keeps me motivated. TLA gives me a creative outlet and feel like I am making a difference. It’s also given me the fortunate gift of being at home with my kids. It isn’t always easy, but I do consider myself lucky as often people don’t have that opportunity.
What is your favourite TLA product and why?
How do I pick one? I have two. I love our Wild Apple and Mint Gel Cleanser - it is gentle on my sensitive skin. You only need a small amount and it gives a great cleanse without leaving skin feeling dry and tight. Plus, I love the smell! And second, the Ultra C Radiance Serum. It always makes my skin feel soft and smooth and I find it calming and nourishing.
What is your favourite ingredient and why?
That would be Pascopyron Smithii or as more commonly known - Wheatgrass. It features throughout the TLA product range from our cleansers, serums and face cream. It’s a multitasking ingredients with so many benefits; exfoliation, detoxification, healing properties and anti-aging. As well as being high in vitamins and minerals to support fresh, healthy and glowing skin, this humble ingredient aids neutralising toxins and daily pollutants from the skin.
